Sports Update: Why the Dallas Mavericks Won the NBA Finals

2011 NBA Champions
Dallas finally did it...good for them. If you didn't watch the NBA Finals...well you missed out. The 2011 Championship was probably one of the greatest finals of all time. Each team featured star-studded lineups and a guaranteed exciting series. Miami had the "heat" on from the get-go. Sportscasters had this series wrapped and in Miami's hands in 5 games. Nearly everyone underestimated the Dallas Mavericks and Dirk's ability to come through in the clinch.
So why did Dallas win it all over the most talented team in the NBA? Dallas came into the series as the underdog and they kept that in the forefront of their minds. Dallas knew that they would have to play their best defense as well as out-work, out-hustle and out-play the Heat the entire series. Every player on the Mavericks played hard throughout the whole series and kept the talented Miami Heat on its heels. Dallas wanted it more than Miami did, and it showed. Lebron's lackluster performance in the series was very evident in the 4th quarter of each game. He appeared unwilling to put forth the effort to help his team, while Wade himself struggled at times to be aggressive. As the viewers watched as each game progressed, none of the Heat's "star threesome" wanted to take the shots in the fourth quarter, always passing instead of creating and they seemed intimidated from driving to the paint (except game 1). The Mavs defense might have had something to do with that. However, on the Mavs side, they were not afraid to drive inside, often taking hard fouls. Dallas deserved to win it with their determination and hustle. Congratulations to Dallas and their fans. Though I am not a Dallas fan I respect them for beating arguably the most talented team in the league, when no one expected them to make it past the first round of the playoffs.

  1. Dallas were playing with much more heart than Miami and Lebron needs to stop being such a jerk and man up.
