Sports Update: Tiger Who?

Rory McIlroy shot a 16 under par to win the US Open

      Rory McIlroy won his 1st US Open and he is only 22 years old. Rory took it by storm, winning it with a -16. That was enough to break a hundred year record and good enough to erase a painful memory from the Augusta National a few months earlier. McIlroy looked good in Augusta and poised to win, but a final round meltdown left him devastated and he left empty handed. Who needs Tiger Woods with McIlroy lighting up the tournament.

      The PGA has suffered greatly since the recent demise of Tiger Woods. Tiger's popularity drew  a ton of viewers that haven't really followed golf since his absence. However, Rory's performance over the weekend helped peek interest from those straddling the fence and managed to reel some of them back in to watching the tournament and to see if McIlroy would break the record. Whether or not he will retain those viewers is uncertain. Hopefully, he will give the PGA a much needed boost.
